KON TUM (VNS) — Veterinary officers in central region reported yesterday that nearly 1,000 poultry birds in the Central Highland Kon Tum Province had died of the A/H5N6 bird flu.
The authorities tested the samples taken from 550 dead chickens and 440 dead geese, owned by a local person in Đăk Kan Commune in the province's Ngoc Hoi District, last Wednesday and detected the virulent A/H5N6 virus strain.
The virus strain can reportedly be transmitted to humans and cause deaths.
The authorities burnt the carcasses of all the infected birds.
The local people too have taken measures such as spraying of chemicals to prevent an epidemic in the area.
