HCM CITY (VNS) — Police in HCM City yesterday detained and prosecuted a woman and her ring's members who were accused of gambling and organising gambling activities.

Police arrested Nguyen Thi Kim Ha, 46, the leader of the ring and 13 members in Ward No 17 of Binh Thanh District and seized VND37 million (US$1,680) and some exhibits.

The gambling activities in this area returned again after an infamous ringleader, Nguyen Hoang Kiet, 44, was arrested in May, police said.

According to the police, Ha is the elder sister of Kiet and organised gambling activities in this area after her brother was arrested.

Ha installed four cameras to rapidly detect any strangers who approached her gambling area.

At the police station, Ha admitted that she organised gambling activities over the last two months and the gamblers are mainly women.

Besides 24 ring members, the police summoned others to clarify on the activities of the gambling ring. — VNS
