THANH HOA (VNS) — Rare animal belonging to the deer family were discovered recently in the forests of central Viet Nam.
The mammals scientifically named Muntiacus vuquangensis were classified as rare and endangered animal in the red book.
The scientists found a female and a male pair in the Pu Hu Nature Reserve in Thanh Hoa Province.
The discovery could prove that there may be big population of the mammal in the natural reserve area.
The animal was first discovered in 1994 in the Vu Quang Forest of the central Province of Ha Tinh.
They were found during the implementation of a project to investigate and monitor rare animals and plants in Pu Hu Nature Reserve.
Besides, the scientists also discovered some other animals.
The project was conducted by the Reserve's management board, and the Research Centre of Natural Resources and Environment last year.
This was one of the most meaningful discoveries at the natural and biodiversity reserve activities of the Pu Hu Reserve. — VNS
