HCM CITY (VNS) — Ministry of Public Security's Cyber Crime Prevention Police Sector collaborated with Crime Investigate Police to crack down on an online gambling ring yesterday.

Vietnamese gamblers who participated in the ring spent an estimated VND1,000 billion (US$44.3 million), according to the police.

Police arrested four people, Wong Boon Leong, 35, a Singaporean living in Binh Thanh district, Vo Dang Thanh Trung, 31, from Go Vap district, Nguyen Thi Kim Cuc, 29 and Nguyen Van Nam, 33, in district 7, HCM City yesterday morning.

Police also summoned four others to clarify on the activities of the gambling ring.

Wong Boon Leong was the alleged leader of the ring in Viet Nam. Gamblers played on a website called Dafa, whose server is in the Philippines.

To play on the website, gamblers contacted the staff of Dafa via an online chat to get an account. They then transferred money and exchanged it into the score and conducted gambling activities. Money gained or lost from gambling was transferred via a bank account.

The case is being investigated further. — VNS
