DA NANG (VNS) — Tropical storm Melor, which weakened into a low pressure area on Thursday night, caused only 3m to 4m-high waves in the central East Sea this morning.

The wind speed was 40km to 60km per hour.

The Central and Central Highlands Flood and Storm Prevention Centre said the storm was completely over in its final notice about the weather phenomenon yesterday.

Large waves flooded a fishing vessel carrying 13 fishermen from Binh Dinh Province, when it was 10 nautical miles off Cam Ranh Port in Khanh Hoa Province, the centre said.

Rescue and search teams in Khanh Hoa towed the fishing vessel and the crew to safety this morning (December 18).

Average rainfall of 30mm to 60mm was recorded in provinces extending from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh, while the water levels of rivers saw little change.

The centre said search and rescue teams in Quang Ngai Province were seeking a missing fisherman, 43-year-old Nguyen Van Ba, in Ly Son Island.

All fishing vessels continue to be banned from leaving ports in provinces extending from Quang Binh to Ca Mau. — VNS
