Two foreigners arrested for bank card fraud

HA NOI (VNS) — Police officials in southern Khanh Hoa Province have arrested two foreigners, a Briton and a Dutch national, for allegedly using fake bank cards to engage in property fraud.

On December 6, the card service centre of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) discovered a group of foreigners using fake cards to withdraw money at an ATM machine in Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province.

After receiving notification from the bank, local police had revised the bank's camera system and investigated that the two suspects were Joel David Richards, 25, and Rudy Manoel Daas, 33. Both were staying at a hotel in the city.

The police conducted a raid on their hotel and seized 21 fake ATM cards, four electronic machines and VND62 million (US$2,720).

The two admitted that they had been using fake ATM cards to withdraw hundreds of millions of dong at Hue, Hoi An, and Da Nang cities.

At their house in Da Nang City, the police found another 62 fake ATM cards, VND140 million ($6,160) and some electronic equipment to commit the crime.

The two suspects were detained. The case is still under investigation. — VNS
