HCM CITY (VNS) — The first experiment with an artificial rainfall simulator that studies landslides was conducted last week at a new laboratory at the Institute of Transport and Science Technology (ITST) under the transport ministry.

The experiment was part of a project "Development of Landslide Risk Assessment Technology along Transport Arteries in Viet Nam," which kicked off at the end of 2011 and will be completed next year.

The rainfall simulator is the first of its kind in Viet Nam.

The project is under the joint programme "Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development" of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

The experiments are expected to provide valuable data on landslides in Viet Nam. — VNS
