HCM CITY (VNS) — The Tan Son Nhat International Airport's Customs Division under the HCM City Customs Department  announced it had apprehended a woman carrying a large quantity of foreign currency.

The airport customs officials said yesterday a female Vietnamese passenger named H.T.T.D., 32, on a flight at 11pm on November 3 from the Republic of Korea to HCM City, was apprehended with US$90,000 in cash hidden between the walls of a suitcase without declaring it.

The money was divided into small bundles that was then wrapped in white paper.

The airport customs officials handed over the offender and the seized money to the relevant authorities for further investigation under the government's regulation.

In late September, a Chinese national Chang Wei Wei was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Tay Ninh southern province's People's Court for illegally transporting foreign currency (about US$31,000) via the border between China and Viet Nam.—VNS
