HCM City hopes for closer ties with Osaka

HCM CITY (VNS) — HCM City wants greater co-operation with Japan's Osaka City in promoting environment protection and climate change adaption, Vice- Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Thanh Liem said.

During the reception he organised to welcome Deputy Mayor of Osaka Seigo Tanaka yesterday, Liem spoke highly of the results of the recent co-operation programme between the two cities, as well as the assistance provided by the Japanese city to HCM City, especially in environment protection. He said the two cities had co-operated effectively, achieving important outcomes in the field.

HCM City hoped to receive more support from Osaka in dealing with climate change as the city would be seriously affected by the matter, Liem said.

He said his city also wanted enhanced ties with Osaka in the sectors of supporting industry, electricity, IT and processing industry, besides biotechnology in the future.

Deputy Mayor of Osaka Seigo Tanaka said his city would continue to bolster multifaceted links with HCM City, especially in training high-quality human resources and conducting projects on environment protection and climate change response.

He said the two sides would work together to implement a project on waste treatment in HCM City in the near future, which was expected to help improve the environment and create new energy sources to meet the daily requirements of the local people. — VNS
