HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam and the European Parliament (EP) are hoping to promote their co-operation in the labour and employment sectors, according to Werner Langen, chairman of the EP's delegation to Southeast Asia and ASEAN (DASE), and Dang Ngoc Tung, president of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour.

During a meeting in Ha Noi yesterday, Tung praised the EP for supporting the ratification of the EU-Viet Nam Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation (PCA) and the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

He informed Langen of Viet Nam's ratification and implementation of international labour conventions, as well as its engagement in co-operative agreements with the European Union (EU).

He noted that Viet Nam has ratified five of the eight basic conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and is studying the remaining ones on the freedom of association and protection of the right to organise; the right to organise and bargain collectively; and abolition of forced labour.

Additionally, Viet Nam has been effectively implementing policies for labourers and popularising regulations of international conventions to protect their legitimate rights and interests, he said. — VNS
