DONG NAI (VNS) — A vegetable farm in the southern province of Dong Nai is the first plantation in Viet Nam to receive an organic certification by the United States and the European Union.

Fruits and vegetables grown in Organica farm, which first came into operation in 2013, yesterday were officially certified as organic products by agricultural standards of the United States (US) Department of Agriculture and the European Union (EU), the highest food safety criteria in the world.

The plantation, stretching to about 1.8ha in total, grows nearly 100 types of tropical fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Instead of spraying chemicals and pesticides to chase away harmful insects and getting rid of weeds, the farm uses chilly and garlic in order to guarantee the safety of its products when it reaches customers.

The farm also says no genetically modified plants as well as the usage of growth stimulants or hormones on the farm's plants. — VNS
