HA NOI (VNS) — Police in Ha Noi City's Hoan Kiem District have arrested two members of a pick-pocketing gang in the capital's ancient quarter.

The two women, Nguyen Thi Hang, 29, from Kim Dong District, northern Hung Yen Province and Tran Thi Hue, 47, from Nghi Xuan District, central Ha Tinh Province were nabbed while they were stealing luxury cell phones of tourists in Hang Ma, Cau Go and Hang Da streets.

The duo confessed yesterday after being arrested that they had carried out dozens of thefts in Ha Noi's old quarter.

Their targets include visitors from outside Ha Noi, particularly foreigners. They said the property acquired by them would be transferred to another woman named Nhung for use.

Hang and Hue told investigators that they took to pickpocketing at night when the street was crowded with shoppers who were not aware of the security around.

Hang said whenever they found a potential "prey", Nhung would surround the victim and directly steal the property. She would then gave the items to her accomplices and immediately run away or escape on a two-wheeler.

The police are expanding their search to hunt for others members of the gang. — VNS
