HA NOI – The government convened its monthly meeting for September yesterday to discuss Viet Nam's socio-economic performance in September and during the past nine months.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung chaired the meeting.
According to the General Statistics Office under the planning and investment ministry, despite being affected by changes in the global market, Viet Nam's macroeconomy has remained stable so far this year, with the average consumer price index (CPI) rising 0.74 per cent year-on-year.
The government has directed ministries, agencies and localities to implement measures and policies, such as fiscal and monetary policies, effectively to ensure the stability of the macroeconomy, boost production and maintain a proper growth rate.
Viet Nam's GDP growth rate increased quarterly, standing at 6.5 per cent in the first nine months of this year, the highest recorded over the past four years.
Throughout the reviewed period, social welfare, political security and social order were also maintained.
Cabinet members at the meeting held yesterday also discussed ways to improve Viet Nam's labour productivity, wages, socio-economic development and the economic restructuring plan in the next five years.
The social-economic development issue was expected to dominate today's meeting. – VNS
