HA NOI (VNS) — The River Da water pipe, which ruptured for the 15th time early on Saturday, was reportedly repaired by Sunday.
Nguyen Van Ton, general director of Vinaconex water supply joint stock company, said 100 workers were mobilised to work throughout the night to dig up the soil and install a new water pipe in Thach That District, where the pipe had ruptured.
Early on Friday, the water pipe had ruptured for the 14th time, but was quickly repaired. While building a tunnel near the Big C supermarket in Tran Duy Hung Street in Cau Giay District, workers of Civil Engineering Construction Corporation number four reportedly caused the break in the water pipe.
Other water pipes had also been damaged by road construction companies recently, Nguyen Anh Viet, director of the Viet Nam Clean Water Investment and Construction Corporation, said.
The pipe transports water from the River Da to Ha Noi. The ruptures in the pipe on Friday and Saturday left 70,000 households in Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, Ha Dong and Dong Da districts of Ha Noi without water for several hours, Vnexpress online newspaper said.
The economic problems caused by these incidents were not major, but were seen as warnings to these companies to work with greater care, Viet said.
Ton said the second phase of the construction project of the new River Da water pipe across Thang Long Boulevard (where the pipe breaks have been frequent) would begin in October and was expected to be completed in May 2016.— VNS
