VN students injured in US bus crash

HA NOI (VNS) — A severe bus collision on Thursday that killed four in the US city Seattle injured four Vietnamese students, according to the Consulate General of Viet Nam in San Francisco.

The students – Dinh Thi Nam Phuong, 18; Nguyen Tu Quyen, 18; Nguyen Son, 17; and Vu Khanh Vi, 17 – attend North Seattle Community College.

Three of the four have been discharged from the hospital, and one is still recovering.

The Vietnamese students were among 45 international students and staff from the college on a field trip when their bus crashed with a "Ride the Ducks" vehicle, which also function as boats and are used on tours across the country.

The crash killed a 49-year-old Austrian woman, Claudia Derschmidt; 18-year-old Privaudo Putradauto, Indonesian; 37-year-old Mami Sato, Japanese; and a 17-year-old Chinese student whose name was not released by local authorities because she is a minor. Another 51 people were injured.

The Consulate General is co-operating with local authorities and the North Seattle Community College to arrange visits to the US for family members of the injured students.
