DA NANG (VNS) — Five vehicles were involved in a collision in the Hai Van Tunnel yesterday, slightly injuring 12 passengers and damaging three cars.

The tunnel management company, Hamadeco, said the accident occurred around 1.30pm when a truck travelling in the north-south direction hit a 16-seater bus from the rear, which in turn rear-ended three cars, a seven-seater, a four-seater and a truck, which were in front.

The tunnel was then closed for 36 minutes to rescue the victims and remove the cars.

Passengers on the 16-seater bus suffered a few abrasions, while three cars suffered heavy damage.

The company said the driver of the truck, which had Khanh Hoa number plates, could not control the vehicle's speed and collided with the 16-seater bus, which had stopped temporarily due to a roadblock sign.

Last month, one person was killed and another critically injured in an accident in the tunnel which connects the central localities of Thua Thien-Hue and Da Nang. — VNS
