HA NOI (VNS) — Clean water prices in Ha Noi will increase an average of 20 per cent from the beginning of next month, according to the Fresh Water Business and Investment Construction Joint stock Company (VIWACO).

For households, water prices will rise to nearly VND6,000 (US$0.27) per cubic metre for the first 10 cubic metres, and nearly VND16,000 ($0.7) per cubic metre for consumption of more than 30 cubic metres.

Clean water being used by businesses will cost nearly VND10,000 ($0.4) per cubic metre, while clean water used by manufacturing plants will be nearly VND12,000 ($0.53) per cubic metre, and water for business and services will cost VND22,000 ($0.9) per cubic metre.

The prices do not include value added taxes and environmental protection fees.

VIWACO added that underground water sources decreased 1-3 per cent this year, even while demand for clean water increased 7-10 per cent compared with last year. This meant that the water shortage compared with real demand was 40,000-60,000 cubic metres per day.
