HCM CITY (VNS) — The streets in HCM City continued to be flooded early on Thursday with the water level standing at 60cm to 80cm, following heavy rain at midnight on Wednesday.

The residents of An Duong Vuong Street in Binh Tay District had to pump water out of their houses with the water level being 30cm to 60cm high.

The street, where several footwear and sport fabric shops are located, was flooded after it started raining at 8pm yesterday, causing damage to property.

Trương Cong Hồ, a resident of An Duong Vuong Street, blamed the flooded street on an ongoing construction by a local company that blocked the sullage pits here.

Hundreds of residents in the nearby households had to shift their furniture away from the rising waters and evacuate their homes during the night.

Yesterday's rain flooded busy streets inside the city during the rush hour, causing trouble to vehicles and residents for a long time.

The 80cm-high flood waters in Kinh Duong Vuong Road submerged hundreds of cars and motorbikes.

The city's water drainage company workers reached the flooded areas to pump out the water. However, the areas continued to be submerged this morning. — VNS
