Coal company officials prosecuted for fraud

QUANG NINH (VNS) — The public security department's investigative force has prosecuted two vice-directors of Tay Nam Da Mai Coal Joint Stock Company for fraud, the Company Chairman Hoang Minh Hieu said yesterday.

The two suspects -- Do Quang Hung, 45 and Pham Cao Nghia, 56 – are accused of making fake invoices.

Police searched their houses and office on Monday. Four other officials of the company are also being investigated for alleged involvement in the scam. They are former Director Pham Van Ha and the heads of the geological survey, technical and accounting departments.

The suspects were not allowed to leave their residences.

Initial information said in the last two years, the suspects allegedly overstated the amount of soil and stones that was transported and made fake invoices to appropriate a large amount of money.

The Tay Nam Da Mai Coal Joint Stock Company, based in Cam Pha City in the northeastern Quang Ninh Province, is a subsidiary of the Viet Nam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin). — VNS
