HA GIANG — A pregnant mother with her two sons were washed away in a devastating sudden flooding of the mountainous province of Ha Giang.

Heavy rain on Monday evening prompted the flooding of a creek in Vi Xuyen District's Minh Tien village.

Giang Thi May, 24, was in her seventh month of pregnancy and was looking after her two sons Phan Phu Son, 5, and Phan Phu Minh, 3, at her house located on the banks of the creek.

May's husband, Phan Sai Nuoi, was working away from home at the time.

Despite search efforts, ongoing since Monday night, the three victims remain missing. — VNS
