THUA THIEN-HUE (VNS) — The central province of Thua Thien–Hue has decided to invest VND5 billion (US$222,000) in a tropical rainforest project.

The project will cover more than 67 hectares in Hue's An Tay Ward and Huong Thuy Town from 2015 to 2020.

It aims to conserve and preserve biological diversity in the central coastal provinces, serve scientific studies and ecological tourism in the region, and increase public awareness about protecting natural resources and the environment.

Tropical rainforests account for only 7 per cent of the earth's land surface, but half of the world's total species.

In Asia, tropical rainforests cover land from Sri Lanka and western India to Thailand, Viet Nam and the Philippines. — VNS
