Viet Nam joins International Hydrographic Organisation

A flag-raising ceremony was held in Monaco to mark Viet Nam's membership of the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO). Viet Nam became the 84thmember of the IHO yesterday, marking a milestone in the development history of the Viet Nam People's Navy and the Vietnamese hydrographic sector. —

The IHO held a flag-raising ceremony yesterday in Monaco to mark the significant event. 

Among those who attended the event were Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People's Navy Rear Admiral Pham Xuan Diep and IHO President Robert Ward. 

The participation of Viet Nam in the IHO specifies the party and state policies on active international integration. 

Viet Nam has pledged to fully implement the regulations of the IHO Convention and step up efforts to contribute actively and responsibly to ensure regional and global maritime security and safety. 

Viet Nam has affirmed its commitment to co-operate with other IHO members, and be a trustworthy friend and partner and a responsible member of the international community. 

Founded in 1921, the IHO, enjoying observer status at the United Nations, aims to ensure that the world's seas, oceans and navigable waters are properly surveyed and charted to support safety of navigation and the protection of the marine environment. 

Viet Nam applied for the IHO membership in May 2011. — VNS
