QUANG NAM (VNS) — The Viet Nam Association for Support UXO/ Mine Action Efforts (VNASMA), in co-ordination with the Quang Nam People's Committee, today gave aid to poor households that were affected by mines.
Twenty households in Duy Xuyen and Thang Binh districts received VND240 million (US$11,000) in all.
VNASMA Chairman and Lieutenant-General Nguyen Duc Soat said the association had joined hands with localities to spread awareness about the dangers posed by mines, their control and prevention of risks, and called for support from domestic and international organisations in this work.
VNASMA is scheduled to give presents to 60 victims of mines in the province by the end of this year.
It was founded in November last year with 200 members. It aims to give information about the dangers posed by mines and to call for community and international support to help mine victims. — VNS
