HÀ NỘI (VNS) — The Hà Nội People's Court today sentenced Emmanuel Sillo Camacho from Philippines to death for trafficking drugs across the border.

Earlier in December 2013, the 40-year-old man was caught carrying over 3kg of cocaine in black plastic bags concealed in 18 socks at Nội Bài International Airport, the online newspaper of Voice of Viet Nam (VOV) said.

According to the investigation, Jessica, a woman living in Brazil known to Emmanuel via Facebook, hired him to carry drugs to Việt Nam and promised to find him a job in Brazil or some other country with a monthly salary of US$1,000 to $1,500.

When Emmanuel agreed, another woman who introduced herself as Jessica's friend gave him six plastic bags containing 18 socks filled with cocaine and asked him to bring these to Việt Nam.

Someone in Việt Nam would contact him to receive the drugs, she told him.

He flew from Brazil to Singapore, and then to Việt Nam where he was arrested.—VNS
