HCM CITY (VNS) — Vice-Chairwoman of HCM City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hong has asked state administrative agencies to discontinue the collection of parking fees from people coming to these offices.
The decision aims to promote the implementation of a regulation issued by Prime Minister in 2007, banning state agencies from collecting parking fees.
"Free parking" signs must be set up at visible locations. The state agencies' chief officers would be responsible to the municipal People's Committee for collecting the fees or for not having free parking lots, she said on Monday.
Earlier, Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Sai Gon) reported that the local people were annoyed at having to pay the parking fee at state agency offices in the city.
"I had to pay VND3,000 (US$0.14) when I went to the ward's People's Committee. The amount is not large, but it is unacceptable when they break regulations," Tran Van Dai, a resident of Tan Dinh ward in District 1, said. — VNS
