HA NOI (VNS) — A seven-year-old boy was seriously injured after falling from the balcony of a 10th-floor apartment yesterday in Hong Mai District, Ha Noi.
The accident happened at about 5pm when the boy was playing in his family's apartment in N4A building in Linh Dam Peninsula. He climbed the balcony railing and somehow fell over it.
"I was sitting in the cafe on the ground floor of the building, when I suddenly heard a very loud sound such as something hitting the porch roof," a witness said.
"When I turned around, I saw a boy about seven or eight years old covered in blood, lying motionless on the ground."
The boy was rushed to the emergency ward at Việt Đức Hospital with multiple injuries. He had several broken bones, a skull fracture and brain injuries, the staff of Viet Duc Hospital's emergency department said. He is still critical.
Shortly after the accident, the police reached the site to investigate and collect evidence.
Three workers died after falling from the scaffolding of an under-construction building in Phu Loc 4 urban area in the northern Lang Son Province's Hoang Van Thu Ward.
The scaffolding collapsed suddenly when the workers were plastering the exterior wall of the 12th floor of the building.
The victims were Nguyen Van Thang, 29; Nguyen Duc Liem, 26; and Nguyen Van Cong, 26, all from Phuc Le Village in Phuc Hoa Commune in the northern Bac Giang City's Tan Yen ward.
Cong and Liem died instantly. Thang was seriously injured and died after being taken to hospital.
Shortly after the crash, head of Lang Son police instructed his men to reach the site quickly and to take the victims to the emergency ward, Lieutenant Colonel Trieu Tuan Hai of Lang Son Police told the Dan Tri newspaper.
The building, a 12-storey hotel project, was having its rough framing completed.
