HCM CITY (VNS) — Two female teenagers were fined VND150,000 (US$7) each yesterday for violating public security and creating public disorder on HCM City's Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, local police said.

Nguyen Nhat Thanh, deputy head of HCM City's police station in District 1, said that Hua Vy of HCM City and Vo Huynh Thanh Van from Binh Duong Province had publicly posted on their Facebook pages the date and time of their meeting on the street.

The aim of the meeting was to "settle their conflict", according to their Facebook posts.

Police in District 1's Ben Nghe Ward also fined 13 people for gathering at the site with the two girls and encouraging their behaviour.

The 13 people, who were friends of the two girls, were without identity cards, police said.

Hundreds of curious onlookers watched the girls' argument on Nguyen Hue Street, causing a traffic jam. One streetlight was damaged as well, police said. — VNS
