HCM CITY (VNS) — More than 80,000 students are taking part in an annual volunteer campaign that kicked off in HCM City yesterday.

The volunteers were divided into nine groups for a number of social and humanitarian activities across the southern city, 12 neighbouring provinces, Phu Quy Island District in Binh Thuan Province and some Lao provinces.

Running through August 16, the programme includes communication campaigns on environmental protection, traffic safety, building a civilised society and technology for farmers.

Campaign organisers set a goal of paving 40km of rural roads, upgrading and building 10 rural bridges, dredging eight canals and fixing electricity problems for 1,000 poor households, among others. — VNS
