HA NOI (VNS) — The State had to pay more than VND7.1 billion (US$323,000) in the first six months of 2015 as compensation to those who were wrongly convicted, reported the Ministry of Justice.

The figure doubled in comparison to around VND2.5 billion ($113,600) the state had to pay as compensation during the same period last year.

Some 30 out of 73 cases asking for compensation in the first half of the year were completely solved, said the Chief of the Ministry's Office Tran Tien Dung.

Bureau of State Compensation's Deputy Director Tran Viet Hung said the main reason for the dramatic increase was the rise in the number of solved cases as compared to 2014. . — VNS
