HA NOI (VNS) — The Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said the capital city attracted more than 10 million tourists in the first six months of 2015, a four per cent year-on-year increase.
As many as 1.6 million of these visitors were foreigners, an 8.8 per cent increase compared with last year's figure.
The total revenue earned from tourism is estimated to be about VND25.4 billion (US$1.16 million), a three per cent increase compared with last year.
Truong Minh Tien, deputy head of the Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the growth in revenue was due to the effective promotion of tourist activities in both traditional and potential markets, and improved tourism management.
The city's tourism sector plans to continue to improve the quality of tourism products, with special attention being paid to exploiting the city's traditional and cultural values, and improving the quality of human resources in the tourism sector.
The sector also focuses on managing the rates of tourist services and ensuring a secure and clean environment and safe food for them. It will mobilise enterprises involved in tourism in the city to participate in promotion programmes for tourists coming from Western Europe towards the end of this year and the first quarter of next year, along with the Viet Nam Tourism Association' programme.
The city expects to receive 19.3 million tourists this year, 3.3 million of them being foreigners. It expects to earn VND50,000 billion (US$2.2 million) in revenue.— VNS
