HAI PHONG (VNS) — The Viet Nam Inland Waterway Administration (VIWA) has suspended officials of Hai Phong Maritime Administration for 15 days, following a report about an overloaded vessel in Hai Phong Port.

Head of VIWA Hoang Hong Giang said on June 20 that the administration received a report about Hoang Tuan 28 carrying 1,777 tonnes of wood chips without covering its hold. The pile of wood chips towered 2.5m above the deck.

The decision to allow Hoang Tuan 28 to carry cargo in Hai Phong Port's waters was a wrong one, VIWA said.

The vessel was asked to unload its excess cargo and to cover its hold before leaving the port.

Giang from the Viet Nam Inland Waterway Administration said the order suspending the port authority officials aimed to examine and identify the violators involved in the case. — VNS
