HA NOI (VNS) – The Ha Noi People's Court yesterday jailed two Peruvian men for theft.

William Rafael Aguilar Villanueva, 43, received a nine-month sentence and Jose Marcelino Velasquez Aviles, 62, received a five-month term.

They will be expelled from Viet Nam after they serve their time.

On January 8, the two men hired motorbikes to go to Sofitel Metropol, a luxury hotel in Ha Noi, went to the hotel's lunch room and stole a Canadian woman's bag with asset worth VND 19 million (US$873) including a tablet, a camera, and cash.

The next day, they went to another hotel, but failed to steal anything.

Their action was recorded by the cameras in the hotels. Police caught the two men when they were trying to sell the stolen tablet. – VNS
