LAM DONG  (VNS) — A female Russian tourist quarantined at Lam Dong Province's General Hospital on Tuesday has tested negative for MERS-CoV, the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus, according to the local Preventive Health Department.

The 24-year-old woman and her boyfriend are no longer being quarantined, according to the hospital. The woman is still being treated at the hospital for a cough.

The couple arrived in Viet Nam for a 10-day trip after transiting at airports in the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.

On Tuesday, the woman visited Hoan My Hospital in Da Lat after suffering from a fever, cough, headache and shortness of breath.

The provincial Department of Health told the hospital, after it had sent a report about the woman's health, to quarantine the woman and her boyfriend at the province's General Hospital.

At the General Hospital, the woman's test for MERS was sent to HCM City Pasteur Institute for examination. It was found to be negative.

No case of MERS-CoV has been reported in Viet Nam. All suspected cases have tested negative for MERS-CoV.

According to the World Health Organisation, there have been 1,352 cases in 27 countries as of June 24. Of these, 479 people have died. — VNS
