QUANG NINH (VNS) — Typhoon Kujira landed on the Quang Ninh-Thai Binh coast this noon, causing heavy rains and strong winds reaching 90km per hour.
In the next 12-24 hours, the storm is expected to move further in land and decrease to a tropical low pressure. Northern mountainous provinces are at high risk of flashfloods and land erosion.
Quang Ninh has banned all vessels from going out to sea and has asked all residents to move their aquaculture cages. More than 8,000 vessels safely returned to shore this morning. All localities are on alert round the clock to minimise any damage from possible flashfloods and landslides and have rescue efforts on standby.
The province authorities have ordered people to leave landslide-prone areas for safer places.
In Quang Yen District, the town has mobilised thousands of people and sandbags to protect the dyke along the area.
Nguyen Hong Dien, chairman of Thai Binh Province People's Committee, told local authorities to direct all vessels and thousands of workers at the port to return to land. — VNS
