HA NOI (VNS) — Bac Thang Long Hospital and the municipal Health Department jointly held a quick response drill in Ha Noi on Saturday in anticipation of a MERS outbreak.

The drill was aimed at enhancing instruction capacity and effective and quick response in the event of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) entering the country.

The drill created a scenario in which a Dong Anh District resident returned from the Republic of Korea and was monitored by the district's Medical Centre. Five days later, he developed a fever and the local medical station promptly alerted the district Medical Centre.

The centre quickly dispatched its mobile team to the man's house to conduct the decontamination of the local environment and took the patient to Bac Thang Long Hospital, where he was quarantined.

The Ha Noi Preventive Medical Centre sent experts to the hospital to assist with the collection of samples and transported the samples to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for tests. — VNS
