HCM CITY (VNS) — The operation of the air traffic control tower at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat Airport was interrupted for 18 minutes on Tuesday morning.
This forced several planes to circle or land at nearby airports, said an aviation authority.
Lai Xuan Thanh, director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, said the incident occurred at 7:47am and an investigation is under way to verify the cause of the interruption.
During the 18 minutes, six aircrafts had to wait for landing permission, while a flight had to land at another airport.
An official from Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation put the blame on interferences in radio frequencies.
Last November, Tan Son Nhat Airport's air traffic control tower experienced a 90-minute blackout due to the malfunction of an uninterruptible power supply device, affecting dozens of flights. — VNS
