MOSCOW (VNS) — A ceremony to commence the construction of a statue of the late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh was held in Russia's Ulyanovsk city, the birthplace of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, yesterday.
The 5m-tall bronze statue will be installed in an area of more than 2,000sq.m, next to Ho Chi Minh Boulevard in Zasniazhsky district. The construction cost is being covered by Viet Nam, while its technical consultancy and sculpture work will be provided by Russia.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Chairman of Nghe An People's Committee Le Ngoc Hoa said the project aimed to allow the Vietnamese community in Russia to honour their beloved president, and to cement the close and long-lasting ties between the central Nghe An Province and Ulyanovsk.
The Russian city's representative expressed the local people's delight and support towards the installation of the statue, while pledging to decorate and make Ho Chi Minh Boulevard one of the city's best streets by September 2, Viet Nam's National Day.
The construction work is scheduled to finish by November. — VNS
