BINH PHUOC (VNS) — Sappers in the southern province of Binh Phuoc on Saturday deactivated a 300kg bomb.

The two-metre long explosive was found in Tan Binh ward in Dong Xoai town one metre below the ground in a residential area.

The discovery was made during the digging of a domestic waste-water treatment tank, according to Major Nguyen Duc Que from the Binh Phuoc Military High Command.

The bomb was moved to the Sapper High Command's centre where it was defused.

Preliminary statistics show that unexploded ordnances have claimed more than 42,000 lives and left 62,000 injured, primarily rural individuals and children, in Viet Nam over the last four decades. — VNS
