Gia Lai gets first dioxin detox centre

GIA LAI (VNS) — The first Agent Orange/dioxin detoxification centre in the Centrals Highland province of Gia Lai opened yesterday.

The centre was built with an investment of over VND2 billion (US$95,000). It includes two steam sauna rooms, a medical examination room, a canteen and a rehabilitation room.

The centre aims to purge the victims' bodies of dioxin, a toxin contained in the herbicide dubbed AO. There are more than 13,000 AO victims in the province.

The detoxification regimen used by the centre has been applied in the northern province of Thai Binh since 2012. It has been reported that over 1,200 local AO victims in the province has seen positive results from the treatment. — VNS
