President commends anti-drug officers ‘tireless fight'

HA NOI (VNS) — President Truong Tan Sang praised police in several localities for their tireless efforts in the fight against drugs.

Sang sent a letter to the Police Department for Investigation of Drug-related Crimes under the Ministry of Public Security and anti-drug police units in the northern provinces of Lao Cai, Son La, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Hoa Binh and Quang Ninh.

The letter commends the synchronous collaboration between police forces and other agencies, as well as the bravery and creativeness of officers in carrying out their missions, particularly during the recent national crackdown on drug-related crimes. During the crackdown several transnational trafficking rings were busted and 5,922 drug-related cases were uncovered. As a result, 9,396 suspects were arrested. About 314kg of heroin and 199kg of methamphetamine were seized.

Sang requested that the rest of the country's police follow these outstanding examples and strive to protect the people and mark the country's big holidays, particularly the 70th traditional day of the Viet Nam People's Police on August 19. — VNS
