Update: May, 19/2015 - 18:11

BINH THUAN (VNS) — Officials of Phu Quy island district, in the southern Binh Thuan Province, have reported that 13 fishermen were rescued on Sunday afternoon after their ship collided with rocks.

The fishermen and their captain were aboard the fishing ship BT94211TS when it struck the rocks on Sunday morning while heading to Phu Quy Port.

After receiving the ship's distress signals, the High Command of the Vietnam Coast Guard sent a patrol boat from Coast Guard 9001 unit to the area of the accident.

Officials said that when the patrol boat approached, the damaged ship was taking in water and in danger of sinking.

Coast Guard sailors had to use high-capacity pumps to prevent the ship from sinking, as they repaired holes on two sides of the ship. — VNS
