HA NOI (VNS) — A tractor being carried on two connected river barges pulled down a 220kV power cable on Vam Co River in Long An Province yesterday, cutting off power off to 10 districts in Tien Giang and Long An provinces.

The incident occurred despite a sign warning that a 7.5 metre height restriction was in placed on that section of the river. The power cable was 13 metres above the water surface.

It was the main line linking the East area and the West areas.

The National Power Tranmission Corporation said the barges had violated regulations on power safety.

Power was restored to affected districts yesterday afternoon. — VNS
