LAO CAI (VNS) — Nearly 150 families living in Lao Cai, which is annually affected by natural disasters, will be moved out, said the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of the northern mountain province.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, the director of the department, said the province has created a plan for natural disaster prevention as well as search and rescue operations for 2015.
The shifting will be completed before July 30, Tuan added.
Nguyen Thanh Duong, the vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee, has requested the steering groups of the natural disaster prevention and search and rescue plan to quickly review and update the list of areas that are in danger.
All the search and rescue agencies should have specific plans and enough facilities to deal with disasters, Duong noted.
Authorities have arranged hundreds of tons of rice to be supplied to people during the rain and flooding season.
The weather condition this year can get more complicated; with at least 8 storms expected to hit the mainland, several areas in the province can be affected, Duong remarked. — VNS
