HCM CITY (VNS) — A funeral service was held in HCM City yesterday for the two military pilots who died after their fighter planes crashed into the sea two weeks ago in Binh Thuan Province.

State President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Le Hong Anh, President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang sent wreaths to show respect for the deceased.

The two Air Division 370 Su-22 jets lost contact just a few hours after they took off from Thanh Son Military Airport in Binh Thuan on April 16 for a training session.

The body of Regiment 937 Deputy Commander Le Van Nghia and parts from one of the jets were recovered off the coast of Binh Thuan's Phu Quy Island on April 28.

On Friday the search team found the body of pilot Nguyen Anh Tu and parts from his jet's fuselage. — VNS
