HA NOI (VNS) - Ha Noi capital announced yesterday a decision to grant amnesty to and reduce the sentences of 177 prisoners.
This has been done to mark the occasion of the 40th year of the liberation of South Viet Nam and the National Reunification Day (April 30,1975 to April 30, 2015) and Labour Day (May 1, 2015).
The prisoners are currently lodged in temporary detention centres run by the city government.
Speaking at the meeting to announce the decision at the temporary detention centre No 2 in Hanoi, senior Lieutenant-Colonel Pham Gia Han, deputy director of the centre, said the centre had 27 prisoners, who had been re-educated well and will be released early, based on a positive rehabilitation attitude.
The capital also granted amnesty to 305 prisoners ahead of the Tet holiday earlier in 2015. – VNS
