Undersea cable project brings power to island commune

HCM CITY (VNS) — Thanh An island commune in Can Gio District on the outskirts of HCM City was connected to the national grid last weekend.

The VND200-billion (US$9.3 million) project, funded by the city's Electricity Company, is the first undersea cable project in the city.

The first phase of the two-phase project was completed after four months of construction. It has increased the average power consumption in Thanh An Commune to 300kWh per head per year.

The second phase of the 22kV undersea cable project is expected to be finished next September.

Deputy Chairman of the Electricity Company Pham Quoc Bao said the national grid would help accelerate the social-economic development of the island commune. — VNS
