HA NOI (VNS) — The Viet Nam Railways Corporation (VNR) will transport shallots for free from the South to the North in a bid to help the southern shallot farmers.

VNR General Director Vu Ta Tung signed a decision to this effect on Tuesday and forwarded it to two railway companies, the Ha Noi and the Sai Gon railway one-member joint stock companies.

The decision said shallots would be transported for free till May 5, from the Song Than railway station in Binh Duong Province to other stations in northern Viet Nam.

Farmers will have to bring their shallots to the station, and will then be instructed by the railway staff about what further needs to be done.

Tung said the decision was made following the instruction from the transport ministry to alleviate the difficulties being faced by the southern shallot farmers. — VNS
