HA NOI (VNS) — Cao Xuan Hoa, one of four workers seriously injured when scaffolding collapsed at a construction site in Ha Tinh Province on March 25, was discharged yesterday from Bach Mai General Hospital.
The collapse buried Hoa, 34, underneath steel scaffolding, where he lay buried for hours before being found. He suffered serious chest and lung injuries, as well as several broken ribs. Doctors rushed Hoa to Bach Mai General Hospital, where he underwent an intensive 10-day treatment. His lung injures and blood pressure were stabilised thanks to the doctors' hard work and the application of advanced medical techniques, said the hospital's director, Nguyen Quoc Anh.
The workplace accident killed 13 people and injured 29, including Hoa. Most were workers at a construction site at the Formosa - Ha Tinh Steel-making Complex.
At a meeting with representatives of the Samsung C&T Company, which is part of the South Korean Samsung Group, Vo Kim Cu, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Ha Tinh People's Committee, asked the Korean company to take responsibility for the incident and help solve it.
Samsung C&T Deputy Director Jon Chang said the company would co-operate with Vietnamese authority to investigate the incident's cause.
Chang said eight of the 29 injured workers had been discharged from hospital. The company has given compensation for the victims. — VNS
