BA RIA – VUNG TAU (VNS) — The People's Committee of the southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province held an urgent meeting yesterday to find a way to recover a radioactive resource lost from the Ponima 3 Steel plant.
At the meeting attended by provincial departments, Le Thanh Dung, vice chairman of the People's Committee, asked agencies to co-ordinate with experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology to find the radioactive resource in the shortest time possible.
"Anyone who has information about the radiation resource will be rewarded," Dung said.
He said all images of the radioactive resource should be released in the mass media, to other plants and among local residents.
The ministry's experts have also brought radiation detection equipment to help the province find the lost resource.
Vuong Huu Tan, director of the ministry's Viet Nam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, relevant departments and the Security Agency, were present at the plant to direct the search for the lost radioactive resource.
Radioactive resources can affect human health through direct touch. So finding and recovering the lost radioactive resource was extremely urgent, an official from the Department of Science and Technology said.
Any person who had information about the lost radioactive resource could report it to the Department at this phone number: 0643.858298 or contact the Department directly through Do Vu Khoa, deputy head of the Department, on his mobile phone number: 0909262464.
