QUANG BINH (VNS) — Two fishing boats were fined VNĐ48 million (US$2,200) for violating Viet Nam's near-shore fishing regulations yesterday in the Central Quang Binh Province.

The two boats numbered TH 91585-TS and TH91586-TS with 11 crew members on-board were found catching fish illegally by the border patrol force and inspectors from the province's Department of Aquatic Resource Exploitation and Protection.

An official from the department said near-shore fishing must be stopped as it would result in the exhaustion of the province's fisheries resources. — VNS
